FAKE BAKE
CREATING A FAKE FLIP, BOGUS BATTER & OOZING SYRUP FILLED promo!
In March we had the pleasure of receiving our brand new RGKit Play modules. These are basically motion controlled & timed little bits of magic technology. They allow you to make bottles pour, plates of food spin and unleash your creativity ten fold when designing video content. With our studio and kitchen armed we set out to have a play with them…
An old table top was used for a more rustic looking backdrop for some of the establishing aerial shots for the promo.
The setup was quite simple in theory. The video was to drop on Shrove Tuesday and would showcase someone making a pancake, dowsing it in lashes of maple syrup and fresh fruit goodness. Storyboard planned and sorted we wanted to push the video and create some dreamy close up shots of the ingredients and the pancake being made.
This is where the new piece of kit came into its own. We set up multiple rigs for the fruit. Using the rotator disc we were able to get great shots of the berries spinning at a glacial pace with perfect smoothness.
For the pancake itself this was a tad trickier. We set up a vessel to pour the mixture, which would cut to a pre made mix in the pan. For the actual flipping shots store bought pancakes were used to ensure they looked perfect.
The bake off setup. We used soft boxes and light wands to set the scene in the kitchen area.
Our favourite part of the ad was the maple syrup and fresh fruit topping. This was set up multiple times and required wooden skewers through the middle of the pancakes to steady them as we poured the syrup and cream.
The fruit itself was shot from below with a clear perspex tray over the lens. The berries were then dropped from a height shooting at 200fps for a glorious slo-mo shot.
